EP Committee: Presentation of Report Market Abuse Directive

Members of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs today discussed for the first time the draft report of Robert Goebbels MEP (Socialist, Luxembourg) on the proposal for a Directive on market abuse. The 50 amendments tabled by the rapporteur are related to:

  • Clarifying the definitions of the Directive;
  • Guaranteeing the freedom of the press;
  • Recognising legitimate conduct;
  • Encouraging transparency;
  • Obligation to report market abuse;
  • Encouraging the emergence of a respected regulator armed with effective sanctions.
