Bolkestein Speech on New Policies for European Securities Markets

In his speech at the Forum for US-EU Legal Economic Affairs Mr Bolkestein stressed the need for acceleration in the integration process of European financial markets and concentrated on the following points:
  • eliminating barriers to cross-border investment;
  • Investors Information;
  • Strengthening investor confidence;
  • more efficient regulatory system;
    “In line with the Lamfalussy Report, the Commission is launching some economic studies to try to measure those benefits”, Mr Bolkestein said. “The title of this overall session is: ‘An EU Securities Market that helps secure efficient international capital markets, structural reform of the European economy, and a new European entrepreneurial culture’'.
