UNICE reaction on Taxation Communication

10 April 2002

-
The Commission Communication outlines a two-track strategy for tackling tax obstacles by addressing the most urgent problems in the short and mid-term and find a more comprehensive solution for an optional consolidated tax base in the longer-term.

UNICE fully supports the shorter-term targeted solutions but urges both the Commission and the Member States to find an early solution to the taxation of companies under the European Company Statute.

The key areas in which progress could be made in the short-term are:

  • transfer pricing
  • cross border loss offset, and
  • cross border reorganizations.

In addition to the two-track approach proposed by the Commission UNICE firmly believes that there is an urgent need for a tax system for the new European Company Statute, which is to be introduced in 2004.
