The Italian Prime Minister  Matteo Renzi has clashed openly with the  German Bundesbank  on austerity measures.
	The European Voice reports:
Italy’s prime minister has reacted sharply to criticism from Germany’s central bank of Rome’s efforts to ease rules on budget spending.
Matteo Renzi said that the Bundesbank had overstepped its role when its president, Jens Weidmann, in a speech  (3 July), argued that Italy should concentrate on implementing structural reforms rather than press for changes to the eurozone’s budget rules.
“The Bundesbank does not have among its tasks to take part in the Italian political debate,” Renzi told journalists at the launch of Italy’s six-month presidency of the EU’s Council of Ministers. “Europe belongs to its citizens, not to bankers, either Italian ones or German ones,” he said.
