EU(欧州連合)の外部監査機関としてのECA(欧州会計監査院)の重要性について演説するECAカルデイラ委員長、ルクセンブルクのユンケル首相

Default: Change to:

Luxembourg Prime Minister Juncker, Minister of State Perry representing the Irish Presidency of the Council, and ECA President Caldeira spoke about the challenges facing the EU and the role of the ECA.

President Caldeira: “In these testing times, the Union needs us to work together to restore the trust of many of our fellow citizens in our institutions and authorities. To do that, we must build a more accountable Union than the one we have today - a Union capable of showing that Europe works and that it achieves its aim to promote peace, its values and the well-being of its peoples. European citizens can count on their Court of Auditors to do its utmost to work towards that goal.”

Luxembourg Prime Minister Juncker: "The European Court of Auditors is actually the Court of European citizens and taxpayers and, as such, its audit mission is more vital than ever. Its new building in Luxembourg-Kirchberg is therefore a sound investment in the future. However, what is needed even more is a change in political mentalities at all levels so as to ensure greater budgetary responsibility, also as far as individual citizens are concerned."

Irish Minister of State Perry: “Tomorrow we will mark the 63rd anniversary of Robert Schuman’s Declaration in Paris (...) The European Court of Auditors has a distinct and essential role in bolstering public confidence in the institutions that Europe has built over those 63 years. That confidence is central to our Union’s functioning.”

Today, the ECA also hosted an extraordinary meeting of the Heads of the Supreme Audit Institutions of the EU Member States in view of the forthcoming European Council meeting in June. The importance of ensuring adequate audit and accountability arrangements for the Economic and Monetary Union and banking union was emphasised.

The European Court of Auditors, based in Luxembourg, has been serving the EU citizens for over 35 years as the independent guardian of the EU's finances.
