EP Committee: von Wogau Report adopted

-
The von Wogau report on Lamfalussy was adopted by the Constitutional Affairs Committee this morning by 27 votes to 2, with all the amendments tabled or supported by Mr von Wogau being carried.

The report stresses the Parliaments demand of 'equivalent' rights to the Council and points out that this need not be the same rights. It also demands an interim solution on the so-called ‘sunset clause’ in the form of a declaration in plenary before the adoption of the first legislative text that lays down the procedure up to 2004 and a revision of the Treaty in 2004.

After the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee vote on the Beres Opinion on 8 January on the implementation of legislation relating to financial services rejecting an amendment claiming a “call-back right until Article 202 of the Treaty is revised” the way to a more flexible solution of the conflict between the European Institutions is now open.

The von Wogau report should be adopted in Parliament in February 2002. Mr von Wogau will give a press statement on his report in parliament tomorrow morning. The adopted text will be available on this site as soon as possible.

See the English translation of the von Wogau report as adopted in the Constitutional Affairs Committee. Please note that this is still a provisional document, and there may be changes with regard to the session document.
